"It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High."
"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music"
"Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord."
The Foothill Community Church Music Ministry (FCCMM) is a vital and central part of our church community and its worship. Music..."making a joyful noise to The Lord"...has always been an important aspect of our Sunday service since the church’s inception in September, 1988. FCCMM has always sought to enhance and create a vibrant, dynamic and joy filled environment for worshipping our Lord Jesus the Messiah.
Being a member of FCCMM is an opportunity to serve others. Although participation in FCCMM may be a more "visible" type of service than others in our congregation, it is no more exalted in anyone’s eyes than any other type of service.
We are a music team, comprised of people with many diverse backgrounds and talents. We serve under the leadership of the Minister of Music. We are worship musicians, not performance-oriented musicians. In other words, we do not have any of our own individual messages to convey to others. Rather, our goal as worship musicians is to facilitate other people’s spiritual journeys with our music. We do this by always pointing the way to the Lord God with the idea that people will hear His message.
Because we are an inter-generational congregation, we sing a wide variety of styles of music. It is important that we "draw in" young and old alike...and draw them alongside each other. Our worship settings are a mixture of several types: Music that celebrates the Hebrew roots of our faith; upbeat, contemporary Christian songs; and quieter, more contemplative pieces that draw the worshipper closer to God in prayer. Sunday services usually include at least two traditional hymns of the Christian faith. Choir serves October through May by singing on a weekly basis during the offering.
FCCMM is committed to providing excellent, Christ-centered, worship-enhancing music. We always sing to the Lord, with our congregation (and, when appropriate, to the community at-large). If interested, please prayerfully consider how you might serve as part of the FCCMM team!
OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE:
The central vessel of service for FCCMM is the choir. It provides the greatest opportunity for the most people. A typical choir season lasts from October through December and February to May, then "breaks" during the summer. Both women and men are welcome. We sing "SATB" four-part numbers usually during the offering each Sunday. We also have much larger repertoires during the Christmas and Easter Holidays.
Official FCC membership is not required to be in the choir but certainly encouraged. A regular weekly commitment is expected, both for practice and Sunday worship, (of course allowing for normal vacations, business travel, etc.). New attendees at FCC will find choir to be the best place to serve initially. Choir gives one an opportunity to get familiar with our philosophy, styles of music and Judy’s style of leadership/accompaniment. Come join us! (Musical training is not necessary)
Our worship team, which provides the musical settings, facilitates Sunday services. The team is composed of both vocalists and instrumentalists, combining to create a diverse yet harmonious blend of Christian music. Space is limited on the worship team. We do not want to "overwhelm" the congregation with too high a volume of music. Remember our philosophy: we want to facilitate worship, not "perform", or become too obtrusive.
Because of the important spiritual role the worship team plays, FCC membership is required for vocalists and instrumentalists alike. Regular attendance at weekly practices and Sunday services is extremely important, and expected. Further, worship team members are also expected to participate in the regular choir.
